Former NFL star Warren Sapp has been released from jail on $1,500 bond, a day after he was arrested in Miami Beach on charges he choked a woman in his hotel room.

Sapp was charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic battery in the incident early Saturday, apparently after a night of partying. He was released at about 11 a.m. Sunday — a time he would have been assisting in the NFL Network's pre-Super Bowl coverage.

The network has pulled Sapp off the air until it investigates the matter.

Sapp's attorney, Christopher Lyons, says the former NFL star is taking the matter seriously and apologizes for any distraction from the Super Bowl. He also asked that fans reserve judgment until all the facts come out.
