The Ottawa Senators obtained veteran defenceman Andy Sutton from the
New York Islanders on Tuesday in exchange for a second-round draft pick.
Sutton, who turns 35 next week, provides depth and toughness to the Ottawa blue line.
Sutton has four goals and eight assists in 54 games with the
Islanders this season, with a minus-4 rating and 73 penalty minutes. He
served a two-game suspension in January for boarding Pascal Dupuis of
Pittsburgh.
The Kingston, Ont., native will be joining his fifth NHL club. He
has totalled 34 goals and 101 assists for 135 points with 984 penalty
minutes in 567 games over 11 NHL seasons, in time spent with the San
Jose Sharks, Minnesota Wild, and Atlanta Thrashers.
The draft pick New York picks up was acquired by Ottawa in the Sept. 12 trade that saw Dany Heatley head to San Jose.
