The mystery surrounding Sidney Crosby's missing stick and glove from
the Olympic gold-medal game on Feb. 28 has been solved, Hockey Canada
announced Wednesday.
According to Hockey Canada director Scott Salmond, Crosby's equipment was misplaced, not stolen.
"I want to thank everyone at VANOC, the team equipment managers, a
number of Hockey Canada partners and the International Ice Hockey
Federation in helping us track and locate several shipments to find the
missing items," Salmond said in a statement.
"With everyone's cooperation, we were able to locate these items and
are pleased to be able to return the stick and glove to its rightful
owner."
Crosby's game-winning stick was located as part of a shipment heading to the IIHF Hall of Fame in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The item was given to the federation with the understanding that it
was not the game stick. With the help of the IIHF, Hockey Canada was
able to locate the shipment and provided photos to Crosby, who
confirmed that the stick was indeed the one he used to score the
overtime goal against the Americans that clinched the gold medal for
Canada.
The missing glove was found by Team Canada member Patrice Bergeron,
who located the item after it was unintentionally placed in one of his
equipment bags.
Reebok Canada posted a $10,000 reward for the stick after Crosby's equipment disappeared.
