The Vancouver Canucks have re-signed right-winger Jannik Hansen, the team announced Thursday, after he was awarded a one-year, $850,000 contract in arbitration.

The signing puts the Canucks more than $1 million over the NHL's $59.4 million salary cap. Teams have until the day before the season starts to get down to the limit.

The 24-year-old Hansen had nine goals, six assists and 18 penalty minutes in 47 games with Vancouver last season. He added a goal and two assists in 12 playoff games.

In 107 regular-season games with the Canucks, the Danish native has registered 36 points and 57 penalty minutes.

Vancouver selected Hansen 287th overall in the 2004 draft.
