Ladd signs deal with Thrashers

Andrew Ladd has avoided arbitration with the Atlanta Thrashers.

The former Chicago Blackhawk signed a one-year deal with Atlanta worth $2.35 million US Thursday. Ladd's arbitration hearing was scheduled for later in the day.

Ladd was traded to the Thrashers on July 1, and had a career-high 17 goals along with 21 assists for Chicago last season. The Blackhawks received prospect Ivan Vishnevskiy and a second round draft pick in 2011 in exchange for the left winger.

A native of Maple Ridge, B.C., Ladd had three goals and three assists during Chicago's Stanley Cup-winning run. The 24-year-old was a first-round draft pick in 2004, by Carolina, and was dealt to Chicago in 2008. Ladd has 63 goals and 86 assists in five NHL seasons.

This is the second straight day that Atlanta has avoided arbitration with a former Blackhawk. On Wednesday, the Thrashers signed forward Ben Eager to a one-year deal. Eager was acquired from the Blackhawks right before the NHL draft in late June.
