The Atlanta Thrashers made it official and signed forward Fredrik Modin to a contract on Monday.
Terms of the deal weren't disclosed by the club, but reports suggest that it's a one-year contract worth $800,000 US.
Swedish media outlets first broke the news on Saturday.
Modin, 35, had five goals and six assists in 44 games with Columbus and Los Angeles last season, his 13th in the NHL. Injuries have plagued him over the past three seasons, limiting him to 117 games over that span.
The six-foot-four, 215-pound Swede won the Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay in 2004, when he scored 29 goals in the regular season and added eight more in the playoffs.
He also had two 30-goal seasons in Tampa and won Olympic gold with the Swedish national team at the 2006 Olympics.
"I know Fredrik well from our time in Tampa, and he is an experienced and talented veteran who is tremendously respected in the locker room," said Atlanta general manager Rick Dudley in a news release. "He's won a Stanley Cup, along with an Olympic gold medal, and possesses that winning mentality we are looking for."
Modin was drafted in the third round by Toronto in 1994.
