The Montreal Canadiens announced a one-year contract for gritty forward Jeff Halpern.
Halpern, 34, split time last season between Tampa Bay and Los Angeles. He scored nine goals and 10 assists in 71 games.
Halpern spent the first six seasons of his career with Washington, followed by nearly two with Dallas.
In his career, the Potomac, Md., native has scored 131 goals and 185 assists in 720 NHL games, with 28 power-play goals and nine short-handed markers.
