Kirk Maltby, one of five Detroit players to hoist the Stanley Cup four times, has been re-signed by the Red Wings.
The Wings announced the deal on Wednesday, although it does not guarantee Maltby a spot on the NHL roster. It is a two-way deal, with financial terms not disclosed by the club.
Maltby has been with Detroit since being acquired from Edmonton in the 1995-96 season. For his career, he's scored 128 goals and 132 assists in 1,072 games, with 867 penalty minutes.
Maltby has 21 career short-handed goals, tied for ninth among active players.
The centre played just 52 games last year, with his season shut down in February due to a shoulder injury.
The Guelph, Ont., native has added 16 goals and 15 assists in 169 playoff games. Along with Nicklas Lidstrom, Kris Draper, Tomas Holmstrom and Darren McCarty, he was a part of Stanley Cup teams in 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2008.
