Elio Fox likely has a new favorite hand thanks to his impressive run at the 2011 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event: Pocket Tens –but only when he is dominated. Fox would enter the final table as the chip-leader, a position he held throughout the action on Thursday, and was able to deny three players in particular the WSOPE main Event title, as well as some other impressive accolades. Mortiz Kranich was looking to add his name to the list of Triple Crown winners, and both Shawn Buchanan and Chris Moorman had the chance to jump into the top spot on the World Series of Poker Player of the Year leader-board. Fox’s impressive luck with Pocket Tens began with just 11 players remaining in the field on Wednesday Fox found himself in a three-way all-in against AA and AK holding Pocket Tens, and managed to out-flop his competitors, vaulting out to the chip-lead in the process. At the final table Pocket Tens would once again come up all roses for Fox, as he would first defeat Jake Cody’s pocket jacks, and later eliminate Shawn Buchanan when Buchanan held Pocket Tens and Fox just A4 –an Ace on the river would end Buchanan’s run in the WSOPE, which included two final tables and four Top 30 finishes. Fox’s final opponent would be one of the game’s top talents in Chris Moorman. Moorman is best known for his online success (he holds numerous records including having won over $7 million in online tournaments) but has been proving his skills in live tournaments this year as well –Moorman could actually overtake Ben Lamb for the WSOP Player of the Year award with a victory. Unfortunately for Moorman, as well as 2010 WSOPE Main Event Champion James Bord, the American buzz-saw, Fox, would cruise to the title after winning a massive pot holding the worst possible flush with 4-clubs on the board. The reason Bord was disappointed with the final result has to do with his prediction before the tournament, where he stated that an American could not win the event; going on to back up his bold talk by offering anyone who bet on an American to win the tournament a $500 freeroll at his site Matchbook.com (I’m assuming that a savvy businessman like Bord was using this as an advertising ploy and took out an insurance policy on the bet).
