In a continuing crackdown on illegal gambling, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department vice detectives raided a year-old poker club on the Far Westside on Monday, arresting four people and issuing citations to another 30.

The raid at The Indy River Club, 7043 Girls School Ave., in an industrial park north of West Washington Street and the Indianapolis International Airport, happened about 8 p.m. without incident.

Lt. Doug Scheffel, IMPD spokesman, said the raid was triggered by complaints about illegal gambling at that location, which investigators think had been operated as a poker club for about a year.

Four people were arrested for promoting illegal gambling, and 30 patrons were issued citations for unlawful gambling, he said. No names were immediately available, but those involved included men and women who range in age from 18 to 60.

Scheffel said investigators seized about $5,400. No weapons were found on the premises.
