Seriously Exclusive White List

Kahnawake may have issued the majority of gambling licenses in the industry. But the Gambling Commission has decided to grant none of them licenses to operate in the UK.

We have previously reported that the UK Gambling Commission has approved the thirtieth non-UK or European online gambling company. The White List of such companies approved to operate in the UK will remain exclusive, it is now clear, with only few and selective companies.

For instance, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission in Canada was not granted access to the UK. So was the decision regarding Antigua negative.

Kahnawake has issued over 440 online gambling licenses. These make for over 50 percent of the market. None of these sites will be allowed to advertise in the UK, for instance.

Antigua on its part has been focused on another front, trying to enforce the WTO free trade regulations vis a vis the US. Being turned down by the UK Commission is undoubtedly a blow to the face.

In a press release, Kahnawake Grand Chief Michael Ahríhrhon Delisle, Jr. said they are considering taking legal action. "Kahnawake has concerns regarding the process undertaken by the UK authority and has initiated inquiries to ascertain whether the application was afforded fair and objective consideration-which, at this point, we do not believe was the case."

Antigua seems less moved by the decision, viewing it as a temporary decision that was much needed for advertisers in the UK. "It does not preclude us from going forward with our application," the Antiguan Director of Gaming Kaye McDonald said.
