Ladbrokes Bets on a White Christmas

Ladbrokes has expanded its Christmas betting options, with the online bookmaker offering odds on snow falling in 37 cities across the world on December 25.

For a bet to be successful, a snowflake, sleet or snow grain must be officially (according to British Weather Services) recorded to have fallen at either the nearest airport or weather station during the 24 hours of Christmas Day in the city of choice.

The Icelandic capital Reykjavik is expected to get a snowy reprieve from the recent financial problems that have befallen the island nation, with Ladbrokes offering odds of 1.10 on snowfall.

Montreal, Moscow, Warsaw and the northern Finnish city of Rovaniemi are also considered highly likely to have snowfall, all at odds of 1.33.

Also considered a better than even chance are the wintery centers of Geneva, 1.50, St. Petersburg, 1.66, Budapest, 1.66, Berlin, 1.80, Chicago, 1.80, Istanbul, 1.80, Tokyo, 1.80, and Vienna, 1.80.

Millions of people in New York, Paris and Beijing must be tempted by odds of 5.00 on snow falling on those cities.

At the other end of the scale, Ladbrokes seems to think a Christmas miracle could be about to happen, with odds given for summery southern hemisphere capitals. Melbourne, Sydney, Rio, Miami and Hong Kong have barely produced snow at any stage in their history, even including winter, so we'd say odds of 251.00 and 501.00 being offered for snow to fall in those cities still aren't reflective of how unlikely such an occurrence would actually be.
