A leading US Democrat is attempting to counter anti-online gaming legislation passed under President Bush. Barney Frank, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee has stated that it's time for Congress to release the restraints "impinging" on American citizens' freedoms.

Speaking to the Financial Times, he revealed that he plans to reintroduce a bill that aims to establish a regulatory framework for online gambling providers.

Frank is also determined to reverse the anti-gambling legislation passed in the final weeks of the Bush administration.

A Democrat heavy Congress and liberal political climate are both encouraging facts for the Massachusetts congressmen as he seeks to overturn legislation he has compared to prohibition in the 1920's and 30's.

The infamous Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was passed back in 2006, forcing US gambling companies out of the country.

Frank is optimistic that he has an improved chance of success at pushing through his proposed bill owing to the tide of public opinion which is very much in favor of the rights of US citizens to gamble online.
