Full Tilt Poker, one of the world's biggest online poker sites, was aiming Sunday to beat a previous world record. And it was successful, as 50,000 players joined its poker tournament, surpassing a previous record of 35,000 players.

The poker room held the biggest online poker tournament ever, which put it into the Guinness Book of Records.

The previous record was set by PokerStars. It was achieved several months ago in an $11 buy-in tournament. But worry not your pretty heads, as P|oker Stars quickly climbed back to top the book of records.

Full Tilt Poker was offering a buy-in for $5 or points to compete in the $500,000 tournament alongside poker professionals including Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson and Phil Ivey - who finished on the final table at the recent 2009 WSOP Main Event.

Poker Stars reached 65,000 players by offering a $1 buy-in, $130 000 guaranteed surprise tournament.

The record-breaking attempt is part of a series of promotions to celebrate Full Tilt Poker's fifth anniversary. Poker Stars seem to have simply celebrated online poker.
