The final day of the Group Stage of the FIFA 2010 World Cup was
dominated by draws but also showcased a resurgent Spain taking on a
10-man Chile squad. The day kicked off amidst massive expectation with
the Brazil vs. Portugal encounter. That both Group G teams had already
assured themselves of a final berth in the Round of 16 was put on the
backburner. They went head-to-head in a hard fought contest that was
marked by scuffles, ill-temper at times and lots of defensive football.
It ended in a surprising 0 – 0 draw.
Chile took on Spain in their Group H final match. Both teams pass
through into the next round with Spain topping the leaderboard with a
classy 2 – 1 victory over their South American counterparts. The match
was played with flair and passion and was a deserving victory for the
European favourites. North Korea was outgunned by a goal-laden Cote
d'Ivoire side to the tune of 3 – 0. But not even that merciless
thumping was even to edge the African kings to the Round of 16. Both
teams were effectively relegated to the sidelines of the contest.
Honduras and Switzerland settled for a goalless draw in their final
Group H encounter.

The day kicks off with the 16h00 crunch match between South
American giants Uruguay (Group A winners) and the in-form Korea
Republic (Group B runners up). This contest is being billed as the most
exciting day game of the FIFA World Cup to date. The victors will
secure their spot in the quarter-finals of this illustrious event.
African hopefuls Ghana will be taking off the gloves as they
encounter a resurgent USA side that has shown incredible form of late.
At 20h30 both these giants of the football world will do battle at
Rustenburg's Royal Bafokeng Stadium for a spot in the quarter-finals of
the 2010 FIFA World Cup. USA is looking for a shock victory over the
highly skilled Ghanaians, but whose place will be secured is anyone’s
guess.
